Latest Updates from Our Project:

THANK YOU + Next Steps
over 2 years ago – Wed, Apr 06, 2022 at 05:35:18 PM

Thank you so much everyone! If you hadn't already noticed, this campaign seriously blew me out of the water (pun intended). You can watch our Twitch stream countdown to the end of the project (followed by 3 hours of rum-infused rambling about the history and future PIRATE BORG) here:

Before the nitty, gritty details about getting production rolling on this thing, here is some fun news:

  •  We are going to offer the Digital Cards strech goal as a printed physical deck of cards. You can add it in to your order in the Pledge Manager and it will arrive with your book(s)! The deck will be about 100 cards, and will contain 20 Ancient Relics, 20 Arcane Rituals, 18 Ships, and 40+ monsters. When appropriate, art will be on one side and game text on the other. The deck is $15 for backers. These cards will also be included as JPEG digital handouts AND as printable PDFs to backers for free.
  • We hit the $100k stretch goal so every copy of the book will come shrink wrapped with a A3 sized treasure map (and 2 bookmark ribbons)! An extra bonus is that we will also be printing UPC retail cards that will go inside the shrink wrap which means your final book won't have an ugly barcode on it!
  • The hope is to have the beta version of the PDF finished by the end of the month. This PDF will be a BETA. That means you'll have a chance to help playtest, provide feedback, catch any mistakes, and point out all my flaws as an RPG designer so I can cry about them for weeks to come. Then, the PDF will go to Jarrett Crader at Exalted Funeral for a final editing and proofreading pass. Then off to the printer!
  • There is a Discord Server, a Facebook group, and a Subreddit. Come say "hi", share your campaign ideas, ask questions, etc. The latter two are new and empty. Help me change that.

Production

A few things need to happen before we can kick off production and fulfillment. Here's a quick rundown:

First, Kickstarter needs to transfer over the funds so we have the money to make the rewards (this can take up to two weeks).

Second, we have to find out how many physical items to manufacture and where we need to ship them. We’ll send a BackerKit survey to you to collect this information. We plan to do this around two weeks after the campaign ended (so April 14th or so).

We’ll give you a heads-up before we send the survey so that you can watch for it. You don’t need to create a BackerKit account to answer your survey. The invitation email contains a link to your personal survey. It is important to submit your responses as quickly as you can since we need this information to process your rewards.

The surveys and Pledge Manager will remain open for about a month or so. Once we close it, your cards will be processed and your order will be locked, but you will be able to update your shipping address until closer to the shipping date. I'll give you updates as this is happening.

If you need to change your survey responses, purchase add-on items, or update your shipping information, you can click the link in your survey email again or request your survey link under "Lost your survey?" on our BackerKit project page. (This page will only start working after we send the surveys out.)

If you prefer, you can contact me directly and give me your information, but answering your survey help us get your rewards out to you faster. BackerKit helps us save lots of time by streamlining the survey process, automating data organization, and providing us with pledge management software to make it easy to process your pledge reward shipments.

If you used your Facebook credentials to log in to your Kickstarter account, the BackerKit survey link is sent to the email address you use for your Facebook account. If you have another email address that you prefer to use, please contact me.

Again, thanks for all your support. I can’t wait until you guys are all playing PIRATE BORG!

I'll keep this short. Thank you. Seriously.

Some friends and I are going to be hanging on Twitch to count down the finale. Starting at 11pm EST here: https://www.twitch.tv/limithron

We've love to have you. I'll be answering questions, showing off stuff, and... drinking rum.

Cheers,

2 days left. Lots of PIRATE BORG updates!
over 2 years ago – Sat, Apr 02, 2022 at 09:25:12 PM

This is a long update, but I think you'll like most of what it contains.

Final Days (Tell Your Mates)

I'm seriously blown away. This has been a life changing month for me, and I can't wait for you guys to play this game! 3,000+ backlers mean that this has gone from a fun pet project for my Patrons to a game that will be played (and sold) all over the world!

We are in the final 2 days of the campaign, so as always tell your friends and local game stores to get on it now!

What to Expect (When You're Expecting a... New RPG)

The PDF is moving along splendidly. All the new stretch goals will push back the first draft a bit, but I hope to send out beta PDFs in the 2nd half of April so you can play this game ASAP and provide feedback before we print it. At that time the Pledge Manager will go online where you can add extra copies of the books and all the digital add-ons. Then once most of you have completed the Pledge Manager, we'll submit the print order. I'm hoping for a soft release of September 19th, which is International Talk Like a Pirate Day! Even if you don't have your copies by then, I can promise that lots of us will be playing the final version by then. It is very, very likely that it will be later than that as international shipping and supplies are notoriously troubled at the moment.

Third Party Commercial License (Make Adventures, Make Booty)

The project would never have been possible without the amazing Third Party License that Pelle and Johan established with the original Mörk Borg. I'm happy to announce that I will be offering a similar license so you can make Pirate Borg Content and sell it for gold. You'll obviously need to comply with their license as well, but this will give you access to Relics, Arcane Rituals, Naval Combat Stats and Rules, and the Pirate Borg bestiary for use in your own commercially released adventures and content! More on this soon.

In anticipation of this, I've also established a Commercial Creator Tier on my Patreon. This lets you use any of the maps, tokens, ships, assets, and art available on my Patron in your commercial project just by being a monthly subscriber (read the fine print of course). My dream is that creators, both experienced and brand new, will create Pirate Borg adventures and modules using my maps so GMs can run long elaborate campaigns with a visual cohesion that is heretofore unheard of in a TTRPG games. Maybe we can all release a zine together some day!

Community (Brethren of the Net)

Anyone that is in my Discord server knows that I am big on support and community. With that in mind, I've created a Pirate Borg Facebook group and a r/pirateborg subreddit. There is not much in either yet, but I'm hoping you will all get to work changing that. We'll need admins and mods soon!

Limithron's Patreon (Did You Know I Like Pirates?)

In case you've been under a sea shell and don't know about it, my Patreon is how this whole thing got started. I now have over 50 releases, most with 8 to 12 maps each, including but not limited to:

Ships, Islands, Dragon Turtles, Nautiloids, Towns, Ports, Castles, Brothels, Landing Kit Pages, Temples, Hideouts, Treasure Maps Kits, Krakens, Hex Tiles, and much, much more.  There are also a ton of Foundry VTT modules so you can load maps up with walls, lighting, and sound effects preconfigured.

Here is my latest map release, the Shipwreck city:

Unlocked in one of the stretch goals, we got to give this class a go on the Victory Condition Gaming Actual Play... and I can tell you now you have not truely played a pirate RPG until your ship has been captained by a Foul Fowl. I think a great way to use these optional classes is in between "normal" characters.... though, a campaign of pirate monkeys and parrots sounds EPIC.

Playing Cards, Pirate Borg Interview NOW (Sunday 1 EST.), Haunted Soul Preview
over 2 years ago – Mon, Mar 07, 2022 at 02:26:52 PM

Hi everyone!

As you can we see we've reached the 75k stretch goal so get ready for some playing card style handouts for ships, monsters, equipment, and possibly PC class features! I plan to do DriveThruRPG print-on-demands links for the cards, but I'm also going to check with Exalted Funeral and see what it might look like to print them and include them as an physical add-on. More on that soon. Here's a preview of what these cards looks like for my 5e Naval Combat Guide:

Live Interview

I will be live with Doug Shute, host of the (Free League YouTube channel) on his Victory Condition Gaming's YouTube channel in less than an hour (Sunday, 1 EST) so come hang and ask questions!

Haunted Soul Class Preview

Here is one of the stretch goal classes: the Haunted Soul! As someone on my Discord server pointed out, they work kind of like "Races" in other RPGs. They give you an extra ability and often a drawback. Which is or favorite? Let me know in the comments!

2000% funded! EU Pricing Detailed, Naval Combat Preview
over 2 years ago – Thu, Mar 03, 2022 at 11:25:52 PM

I'll keep it short. You guys ROCK! I'm buying a leather captain's hat to celebrate. And I'm sharing the Naval Combat Rules with you all as a reward for your incredible behavior. Also... you know... tell your friends and stuff.

Naval Combat

Here are the Naval Combat rules as they sit today, plus two of the ships. Give it a try and let me know how much fun you have sinking your friends ships! In case you couldn't tell, you can use them in your Mörk Borg campaigns. These are inspired by my Limithron's Guide to Naval Combat supplement for 5th Edition, but even simpler and faster...

EU Shipping Pricing

I have detailed pricing for all of the EU now. This will probably shift, but at least you can get an idea.
